For over 40 years, Brentwood Children’s Clinic has been dedicated to caring for children and families in Middle Tennessee. While much has changed in pediatrics over the decades, one of our most important roles remains the same: protecting children from serious illness and even death through safe, effective, and evidence‑based vaccinations. 

We remain firmly convinced that vaccines prevent suffering, save lives, and the vaccines we offer are safe. 

We believe that all children and teens should receive all recommended vaccines according to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) vaccine schedule. (See link below)

Considering recent changes to the CDC’s recommended vaccination schedule, we want to reassure families that Brentwood Children’s Clinic will continue to follow the schedule endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics. There is no new science to support the changes made by the CDC, and we do not intend to change our vaccination recommendations or vaccine availability. 

If you have concerns about specific vaccines, please speak with your Brentwood Children’s Clinic provider. Some schedule accommodations may be made depending on the situation, but delaying or spacing out vaccines goes against expert recommendations and increases risk. If a delayed schedule is chosen, we still require that the primary infant and toddler vaccination series be completed by age 2. 

For families following a delayed vaccine schedule, an appointment with your provider will be required at every vaccine visit. This allows us to review your child’s progress, address any concerns, and make sure your child remains on track to receive all recommended vaccines by 2 years of age. 

Declining vaccination rates have contributed to outbreaks of vaccine‑preventable illnesses, including measles. Herd immunity protects those who cannot be vaccinated—such as infants, patients undergoing medical treatments, and children with weakened immune systems. Our practice serves a large newborn and medically vulnerable population. Each unvaccinated child weakens that protective barrier. 

We understand that today’s families are navigating overwhelming online information, including misinformation. We are here to listen, answer questions, and provide clear, evidence‑based guidance.  

We respect that families must make decisions that align with their values. If our vaccination policy does not meet your needs—even after discussion—you may choose another practice whose philosophy aligns more closely with your preferences. If you ultimately refuse not to vaccinate your child(ren) despite our efforts, we may ask you to find a healthcare provider that shares your views.  

As pediatricians and nurse practitioners dedicated to evidence‑based medical care, we remain confident that vaccinating on schedule is the best way to protect your child and our community. We are grateful for the opportunity to care for your family. 

We strive to avoid overusing antibiotics by educating families on their proper use and following evidence-based guidelines to ensure responsible prescribing. Many cases are viral and do not require antibiotic treatment. Instead, our pediatricians take the time to explain alternative approaches and the importance of allowing the body to heal naturally when appropriate. 

Additionally, we do not routinely prescribe antibiotics over the phone, as we strongly believe it is not sound medical practice to do so without a proper assessment. Antibiotics are only prescribed when deemed necessary and appropriate after a thorough evaluation, prioritizing the well-being of our patients while avoiding the risks of antibiotic resistance and unnecessary side effects.

We work hard to provide comprehensive medical care and serve as your medical home. To that end, we urge you to contact our office FIRST before seeking specialty care or heading to another provider for urgent care. We want to be involved in either providing care in our office where appropriate or referring you to the most appropriate specialist and helping coordinate your care.

Whenever you do see a specialist, we ask that you request a report be sent directly to our office so we may stay informed and have the most up-to-date information in your child’s medical record.

Our practice prides itself on efficiency through the use of technology. Where applicable, you will be encouraged to consult our website, register for and use our patient portal, and effectively use automated reminders for appointments and routine care/immunizations that are due.

We make every effort to meet the needs of our patients, offering both routine well child visits and sick child visits. To ensure we provide you with the most efficient care we ask that you call or use the patient portal to request an appointment  when your child needs to be seen in our office.

Please save non-urgent concerns like mild illness, appointment requests, and prescription refills for regular office hours.

If you have an urgent medical question and need to speak with our After-Hours Triage Nurse, call our main number 615-261-1210, and choose option 2. We encourage you to visit our child health resources for helpful information before calling our after-hours clinician. Please note any non-urgent calls such as refill requests will result in a $25 charge.

Please ensure we participate with your insurance plan. It is your responsibility to understand the limits and coverage of your health insurance policy. Please present your insurance cards at each visit and be prepared to pay any copays at the time of service.

While our billing staff can assist with insurance inquiries, it's best to contact your insurance company directly for specific coverage questions. We strive to avoid any billing surprises, but we must bill your health plan according to federal guidelines and the actual services rendered.

Scheduling appointments for your child is a simple and smooth process.  We schedule all well visits and a few other types of appointments in advance.  Most sick appointments are scheduled the same day.  Please use the following guidelines so we can give your child the most appropriate appointment for your child's condition. 

Well Child Visits

To schedule a well child visit please call our office at 615-261-1210, choose option 1 to speak with our scheduling team.  Our doctor schedules are open a year out and we encourage you to schedule these well in advance.  Summer well visits from June to August are in high demand.  We encourage you to call your insurance plan and find out when your child is eligible for their next well visit so you can make the best decision when scheduling.

Sick Child Visits

Most of our sick visits are scheduled the same day.  If your child is not feeling well, please call our office at 615-261-1210 and choose option 1 to schedule an appointment.  If you wish to speak with a triage nurse to discuss your child's illness and determine if they need to be seen by their doctor, choose option 2. If our nurse is on with another caller, you will be asked to leave a message and you will receive a return call within an hour.

Follow up, Behavioral Health or Medication Check 

Please call our triage nurse line, 615-261-1210 choose option 2, to discuss details about  your child's condition and they will determine the type of appointment your child needs.

We value everyone's time equally. Please arrive 5 minutes before your appointment. 

While we understand that delays can happen, we may ask late arrivals to reschedule. 

Our practice strives to run on time, and missed appointments affect our clinicians, staff, and other patients. A fee may be charged for canceled or missed appointments if 24 hours' notice is not given.
